Synopsis

A middle-aged man, wrapped in a dressing gown, sits in a dining room armchair with his son on the lap of his single leg. Melancholic, he listens to deeply moving organ music and watches as, close by, the housekeeper irons a pair of trousers to the rhythm of the melody. As she works, the woman glances at them out of the corner of her eye, curious about the remorseful demeanor of father and son over the past few months. Realizing this, he suspects she must have already guessed that something serious is going on in that house. Convinced that the girl, of Belarusian origin, cannot understand him, the man confesses his secret for the first and last time. Helena Codorniu (Barcelona, 1987) holds a degree in Journalism from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), is a cellist, and holds a Master’s degree in Theatre Studies from the Institut del Teatre (IT). She has also received playwriting training at the Obrador de la Sala Beckett. She has collaborated with the Communication Department of Amnesty International Catalonia and worked as an editor for the digital magazine Mosaic at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC). She recently won the Modest Salse Award for El desig and the Mater Short Story Contest for Utopia (Mater Impremta, 2013). El transportista d'orgues was the winning work of the IV "Caterina Albert" Short Fiction Award for Young Authors (2013), organized by the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the Cerdanyola del Vallès City Council.
