Arnaldi de Villanova: Antidotum contra venenum effusum per fratrem Martinum de Atheca, praedicatorem; Praesentatio facta Burdegaliae
Synopsis
Antidotum contra venenum effusum por fratrem Martinum de Atheca, praedicatorem (hereafter, Antidotum) by Arnau de Vilanova is a very special work, interesting for many reasons, but which, nevertheless, is still preserved unpublished in two manuscripts: the Vat. lato. 3824, from the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana and the Canon. Misc. 370, from the Bodleian Library, Oxford. Heinrich Finke, Franz Ehrle, Josep Perarnau and the author of these pages have published some more or less brief fragments. It is not surprising, then, that the Antidotum is only mentioned in passing in critical Arnaldian studies. The Antidotum is the last doctrinal work of the eschatological polemic that Arnau de Vilanova held with the Paris professors and the Dominican theologians between 1300 and 1305.
